Labyrinth

A poem

Walking the labyrinth
at Glastonbury Abbey,
my shoes rustling the dead leaves
as I pass through lines
of rough stones,
I realize
this is the path of faith,
and not,
a straight and narrow way
but rather
a winding, doubling-back
“where the hell is this taking me”
journey to the Center.

You will want to give up.
You will want to say “f--k it”
and skip right on over those stones
and out.

But if you commit,
if you surrender to the path
and let it lead you,
one mundane step after another
you just might find yourself,
yes, the self you lost
in the hustle and the noise.
You just might find yourself
accompanied by a Presence
you had long missed.
You just might find yourself
rediscovering Everything
if only for a moment.
