You
are always there
silently
patiently
waiting
like the moon
outside my window.
I’ve been given lots of ideas and images about the Divine’s presence throughout my life, some helpful, some no longer so. In the Scriptural traditions I grew up with, God seems most often compared to the sun, a source of light, warmth, and guidance, and I appreciate this image.
But lately, I’ve been drawn to the idea of God as moon, in fact, I wrote another poem about this sometime back:
The psalmist says
You are a sun
And this is true,
But I also think
You are the moon
And the stars
Softly lighting up
This peaceful dark
In which I listen to myself breathing.
What if, instead of being a busy CEO in the sky with no time for us, the Divine is always there waiting for us, just being gentle illumination for us if we’re willing to stop and look up? I like that thought.
I like that thought too. Thank you for turning your beautiful thoughts into beautiful words.
