About Me
"Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all ye know on earth, and all ye need to know." - John Keats, “Ode on a Grecian Urn”
Hey, I’m Chris. By day I’m an English professor, and during the nights, weekends, holidays, summer breaks, etc, I’m a poet, nature explorer, book reader, and hopefully decent husband, dog dad, and friend. I’m kind of a mystic who sometimes just wants to live in a rustic cabin in the woods, but then I remember I’m past 40 and I love my creature comforts too much.
I grew up in evangelical Christianity, and while Christianity broadly speaking will probably always be my home base and my spiritual language center, I find myself these days on an expanding journey as I “learn to love the questions” (Rilke). I’ve also spent the past twenty years writing poetry and studying and teaching literature. As such, I often find myself musing at the crossroads of spirituality, creativity, and culture. That’s what I hope to explore in my writings here on Substack.
I currently write and share this Substack for free, but if you enjoy what you’re reading and would like to drop me a tip, I’d sure be grateful:
